“My life has not been easy. I was married off to a man from another village at a very young age. This is the tradition in our village. When the girls become teenagers, they’re married off by the parents for a better life. That is the way of life there, and the girls have no say.
My life did not change after the marriage. In fact, it became more difficult. There were some good moments, as I had three children. Sadly, some years later, my husband deserted me and married another woman. I was left alone with my three children – with no security or dignity. Somehow, I returned back to my parents.
To take care of my children, I had to work hard. The work I received as an Artisan helped me to stand on my feet and gave me confidence to face life. I’m happy that today things have changed for better. I‘ve come out from that dark period.
I’m happy that all three of my children are going to school. Since I was not able to go to school, it’s a matter of pride for me. I’m happy that I’ve become independent and also able to support other fellow women Artisans in my village.
