Indu’s Story of Hope in India – (Read Time: 1 min.)

Discovering a Sense of Purpose Together

“I’ve worked as an Artisan for nine years. My favorite part of my workday is working with my fellow Artisans while chatting with them. I love feeling a sense of purpose and unity when we work together to make an item of jewelry. I learned my Artisan skills from my fellow Artisans at this workshop. I needed money to look after my family and was fortunate to hear about this Artisan community and how they teach women to become Artisans. I also always wanted to learn how to make jewelry!

“I have two daughters and a son. My husband passed away last year. Without my work, I wouldn’t be able to take care of my family.” – Indu, Artisan in India

Empowering Her Family & Community

I have two daughters and a son. My husband passed away last year.

Without my work, I wouldn’t be able to take care of my family. My earnings contribute to our family’s income.

I live in a peaceful colony with my son, my daughter-in-law, and my granddaughter.

My eldest daughter is married while my younger daughter is studying in college.

Our community is full of people who are working in different sectors.

The biggest problem we face is that our available water is unsafe to drink.

Thankfully, our Artisan community provided my family with a reverse osmosis water purifier.

Pursuing Her Dreams

Before I became an Artisan, I couldn’t pay my children’s school and college fees, and I never dreamed of having my own house! My finances are better now that I’m paid a fair wage. Other support and help from my Artisan community have improved my life, too.

Today I’m proud to say that my children are being educated and I have my own house! But I have yet to achieve all my dreams. I keep saving little by little for my children’s future so that I can see it happen. I dream of seeing my youngest daughter get married, my son get a good job, and my work continue to go well!” – Indu, Artisan in India
