Dulal’s Story of Hope in India – (Read Time: 1 min.)

Our Mission of Hope

Trades of Hope is committed to empowering women and families out of poverty. This mission includes empowering men – fathers, brothers, uncles, and sons – who help provide for and strengthen these families. We recently interviewed Dulal, one of our jewelry Artisan partners in India. His simple and endearing story is a great reminder of the inspiring power of hope.

Searching for Hope

TOH: What was your life was like before you became an Artisan?

Dulal: Just sad. I was not aware of my abilities and was just in search of some work.

TOH: How did you become an Artisan?

Dulal: When I was 19 years old, I was not interested in further studies. I was depressed due to economic conditions. Then my friend introduced me to this work.

TOH: How did you feel about becoming an Artisan?

Dulal: When I was learning this work in Kolkata, my previous boss used to treat me very badly.

New Happiness and Hope

TOH: Do you like your work now?

Dulal: Of course, I enjoy my work!

TOH: What’s your favorite part of being an Artisan?

Dulal: I like to make Antique Collections.

TOH: What are your hobbies when you’re not working?

Dulal: Watching 90’s movie and spending time with my family!

TOH: How has becoming an Artisan changed your life?

Dulal: Now, I’m capable enough to fulfill my needs, and now I’m making all types of handmade jewelry. So overall, it’s a big achievement for me! I enjoy my work, and it’s helping my family and me. I’m happy to be an Artisan. I have hope for a good life in the future!
