Intertwined’s Huipil Tote is sustainably crafted from a repurposed huipil—a traditional handwoven blouse worn by Mayan women in Guatemala and an important part of the country’s rich textile heritage. Each huipil is woven on a backstrap loom and embroidered while weaving, meaning every tote carries the artistry and story of the woman who originally created the textile.
At Cuero Malec, a Guatemalan leather workshop, skilled artisans carefully transform these vintage textiles into sturdy, beautifully constructed bags. The result is a striking blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design—an artisan tote that celebrates heritage while giving new life to extraordinary handwoven fabric.
Designed for everyday versatility, the tote expands with side snaps (whether visible or not in the individual product photos) and includes an adjustable, removable crossbody strap for multiple ways to carry. The interior is lined with handwoven fabric, and a top zipper closure keeps everything secure.
Because each huipil textile is vintage and one-of-a-kind, no two bags are exactly alike.
