Meet the Artisan
Meet the Artisan
Darkhaha’s Story of Hope Darkhaha grew up in a small town in northern India. In her community, most parents encourage their daughters to drop out of school early and marry young. Because of her family’s traditional views of women, she was only allowed to attend school for nine years. Despite her local culture’s resistance to women working, Darkhaha discovered a local Artisan community where she could earn an income weaving scarves at home. Determined to help her younger sister overcome her culture’s discrimination against women and finish school, Darkhaha continued to weave 6 – 8 scarves a day to purchase a mobile phone for her sister, so she could take classes online. Every purchase of our Golden Woven Scarf empowers a woman in India, like Darkhaha, to overcome discrimination and become financially independent.
