Read Time: 5 min.

Hi! Founder (and designer) Elisabeth here. I’m thrilled to present to you our Audrey Top and Malala Skirt! I’ve been designing these pieces and working with our Artisans in Nepal for about a year now – forecasting trends and translating them into these pieces with YOU in mind. Endless intention has gone into these pieces, from the design, to fit, to names, and to who is making your clothing. Read more below…

The Design: Your Wardrobe’s Newest Staple

You’ll adore the Audrey Top as an everyday staple in your closet. Its soft, comfortable fabric will make it one you’ll reach for again and again. While minimal enough for the everyday, the puff shoulder sleeves bring in that statement element to instantly elevate any outfit. Statement sleeves are a trend we continue to see across runways and retailers, a trend that is here to stay. Whether you are working from home or wanting to show off your style, you’ll effortlessly look polished and fashionable (while remaining happily comfortable!).

Fit and Function

The Audrey Top is loosely fitted throughout and lands below the hips to ensure every woman feels confident while wearing her ethically made top. However, the fabric is soft enough to tuck into jeans, a skirt, or any other trouser this Fall/Winter season. It also fits comfortably under a cardigan or jacket.

So many sizes!

Plus Sizes

We are happy to offer the Audrey Top in a wide range of sizes, including plus sizes. The unfortunate rarity of plus sizes in the ethical fashion industry is something we are working to change at Trades of Hope. We are proud to be leaders in this effort!

Made by Women Rescued from Trafficking in Nepal

This piece is made by women in Nepal, like Maya, who have been rescued from sex trafficking. Maya was rescued at the border of Nepal and India from a trafficking scheme. However, when she returned home, her family and community ostracized her for being trafficked at all.

Our Artisan community in Nepal took her into a safe home and taught her how to sew. This allowed her to not only become financially independent but also to send an allowance back home to her family. Now, her family is thankful for her and Maya has found a renewed sense of purpose! Every purchase of the Audrey Top empowers women like Maya and helps to create more jobs for women rescued from trafficking.

The Name: Audrey

All of my clothing designs are named after women in history who have made an impact in the world. While I was designing the Audrey Top, the clean lines and effortless elegance reminded me of my style icon: Audrey Hepburn. I have always admired her grace and quiet courage.

Audrey’s timeless style has inspired millions, but it was her tender heart toward those facing poverty – exclusively doing charity work in her later seasons of life – which is what earned the Audrey Top her name. May every woman who wears it feel empowered and elegant while making the world a better place.

The Design: Beauty and Function

The Malala Skirt will have you repeating one phrase over and over: “Thanks! It has pockets!”

It features two pockets hidden in the seams. This circle skirt (meaning it flares out into a perfect circle) is not only stunning, but the amount of material will also keep you warm into this autumn and holiday season!

Style it with a knit sweater, booties, or your favorite coat for Thanksgiving and your holiday parties!

There was a season of my life (around 4 years old), where I would exclusively wear skirts that would twirl “high in the sky”. I thought it only authentic to bring that femininity, boldness, and fun to our Trades of Hope clothing assortment.

Fit and Function

Designed to be worn at the top of the waist, the waistband creates the timeless A-line silhouette. This helps create shape throughout the torso and flatters the rest of the body with flowing material. Should one want to wear the skirt a bit lower on the hips, I recommend sizing up.

The Malala Skirt also features a brass exposed zipper to add a polished and elevated look.

Made by Women Rescued from Trafficking in Nepal

This piece is also made by women in Nepal, like Maya, who have been rescued from sex trafficking. Every purchase of the Malala Skirt empowers women like Maya and helps to create more jobs for women rescued from trafficking.

The Name: Malala

I decided early on that I wanted to honor brave women in history by naming each of my clothing designs after them.

While most of the honorees have passed, one historical woman still lives today at only 23-years-old: Malala Yousafzai. Malala was shot by the Taliban for standing up for girls’ education around the world when she was a 15-year-old girl. She refused to remain oppressed and risked her safety to speak up for her fellow girls in need.

Her bravery inspires me daily, and we know that girls’ education is critical in our mission to alleviate poverty and fight trafficking. That’s why I’ve named this bold piece after her: to remind me to be bold like Malala and never rest in advocating for others.

Trades of Hope is partnering to rescue women from sex trafficking in Nepal.

Every purchase of our Audrey Top & Malala Skirt from Nepal supports women who’ve been rescued from human trafficking.
