Helping Mamas Keep Their Babies
Haiti is home to almost 500,000 orphans. The majority of the orphans have not been orphaned by parental deaths or natural disasters, but by parents who gave them up because they could not feed them. This Artisan community is an “un-orphanage” that’s helping with the orphan crisis by providing parents with sustainable business by creating designs that do good.

In the midst of Haiti’s poverty and orphan crisis, this Artisan community is empowering women and men to become financially independent by providing opportunities for sustainable jobs as Artisans. Empowering women and families out of poverty includes empowering men who help support their families in areas of extreme poverty. Many of these Artisans were once orphans themselves, but are rising up to overcome the challenges they have faced and pursue their dreams.
Hope in Haiti
Abandoned by his mother as a young boy, Claude became orphaned and alone when his father passed away. As a child, Claude worked alongside the Artisans in his village to provide for himself. As a teen, he sold handcrafted Noah’s Arks at local fairs. Now in his late 20’s, he is highly respected by the dozens of Artisans he oversees in his workshop. Together this community of Artisans transforms upcycled steel oil drums into beautiful art and home décor.
